Trebek, originally from Sudbury, Ontario, went to Sudbury Secondary School, then called Sudbury High School, in the 1950s. His father came from Ukraine and met his mother in Sudbury. His mother, originally a Lagacé, has a street named after her family in Sudbury’s historic Flour Mill neighbourhood.

I chose to do a retro Alex Trebek, with a design pattern from the era, for a number of reasons: 1. It’s fun and playful to see the handsome local hero in his youth, sporting his most excellent style. 2. It’s closer to the time when he lived in Sudbury. 3. I’ve been joking around about how it’s a mural depicting the origin story of his once iconic moustache. 4. I love 70s design and finally found a perfect outlet for it” said muralist Kevin Ledo. “This mural wasn’t an easy one, the brick was an insane challenge and the 10 days of sun and heat were taxing. Nonetheless, I had a great time and I’m very happy with the result.

Kevin Ledo

Raised in Montreal by parents from the Azores Islands, Kevin has crisscrossed the globe with his art, which in turn crisscrosses back-and-forth between murals, street art, fine art, and installations. Inspired by psychology and neuroscience, religious iconography and music, Kevin’s pieces are grounded in classical techniques and materials but plug into contemporary perspectives. His public murals aim to reflect the communities they’re found in.
